DARLING
Stories that humanise sex workers and sex work clients
‘Darling Darling is a peer-led creative project that uses art to tell the stories of sex workers and sex work clients. By bringing marginalised experiences into the light—intimate, ordinary and complex—it reveals sex work as a thread in the everyday fabric of our society. Through multi-modal arts advocacy, Darling Darling challenges stigma with authenticity and humanity, creating space for empathy, connection, and cultural change’
Through writing, photography, sculpture and performance art, Darling Darling challenges stigma with authenticity and humanity, creating space to advocate for empathy, connection, and cultural change.
Our Intention
Platform Sex Worker Voices – Centralise and normalise the lived experiences of sex workers, ensuring their stories are told with dignity and authenticity | Challenge Stigma – Break down harmful stereotypes and misconceptions, fostering greater public understanding and acceptance of sex work as work | Humanise Workers and Clients – Highlight the shared humanity of sex workers and sex work clients, reframing them as everyday members of our communities. | Empower Through Creativity – Use storytelling, photography, and art-making as tools for reflection, self-expression, and collective strength. | Foster Connection and Dialogue – Create interactive, immersive exhibitions and conversations that bridge gaps between sex workers and the broader public.
What is the Darling Darling plan?
-

Storytelling
— Stage 1 —
Workshops and our online portal give sex workers, former workers, and clients a safe space to write, speak, and share stories, exploring creative, oral, and visual storytelling to reclaim narrative.
-

Photography
— Stage 2 —
Participants work with a professional photographer to create images reflecting professional identity and lived experience. Select photographs may be exhibited with consent, showcasing the beauty and humanity of sex work.
-

Sculpture
— Stage 3 —
Hands-on workshops explore materials, fabrication, and construction, turning stories into tangible sculptural forms. Inclusive for all levels, participants contribute artworks reflecting memory, identity, and community voices for the exhibition.
-

Immersive Exhibition
— Stage 4 —
Walk through multi-sensory domestic spaces where intimacy and everyday life intersect. Rooms reveal ordinary and extraordinary aspects of sex work, inviting audiences to challenge assumptions about workers and clients.
-

Performance & Audience Participation
— Stage 5 —
Performances, story readings, panels, and “Have a Seat at My Table” — a participatory dinner connecting audiences and sex workers through conversation, shared experience, and humanising storytelling.
